Mandatory update

Oh jeez, it is Friday already. Well, I didn't do a lot, frankly- I was busy finalising a moving date and sorting out presents and christmas puddings. Started packing, too, which has meant it's fairly chaotic here. I'm looking forward to moving, though, since my heart ACHES, guys, ACHES to be back in the library and reading all the books. ALL OF THEM.

What I did do was write my project aims and start to sort of collect the links of developers I'd like to look at. Also I've started doing the trying chore of looking at visual inspiration sources. I'll put my aims under the break, but I doubt anyone wants to see my eye-watering project to-do list or my other list of Danger Man episodes.

Games bible templates

I've used Mark Baldwin's games bible template ever since I was a confused first year and it was pretty much the first google result. As he mentions in it's introduction, it's not a conclusive template but it's easy to adapt to each project and certainly makes an easy to manage draft document. I put in some quick slap dash formatting in it, too, so that it fits easily into my universities preferred report making structure though I doubt I'll be submitting this particular document in that style.

SO.

Thoughts on markets and project aims

I came up with the bones of this project while working on another project. I needed to get the gist of the games market. My data, I will fully concede, was skewed and my analysis biased by how much I flipping love adventure games, but-

Things to be completed before 25/12/11

  • Create a work blog ah HAH, ahead of the game!
  • Research games bible templates Partially done. A former teacher, Shafaq Raman, used to work as a games designer and offered for me to come and look at some of the real, industry level bibles he worked on. Though I didn't take him up on his offer then, I should see if it's still open.
  • Write project objectives- personal as well as what will actually be achieved
Once the games bible template is found:
  • Write list of areas that need to be done
  • Start writing a list of what needs to be done- this will be fairly extensive, as each category will most likely have a research and a design phase. This will not be conclusive, and most likely will not be finished by the 25th, but the important thing is being able to do the next thing-
  • Start making a rough timetable of work. Be realistic. E-mail this to Dave if in doubt.

Project Blog!

Hello! My name is Katie and I am a third fourth year student at Teesside University. Or maybe it's the University of Teesside. ANYWAY. Last year I sort of went off the rails and now I'm trying to boost my regular sucker degree to an HONOURS deal by re-doing my final module. I am a games student which means that my dissertation is actually crazy fun, but often lacking structure. This blog is my way of getting round that. If you came here it's probably because I linked you here because you are friends or family and already knew that, but, there it is again. My superviser is a lovely man named Dave who I will casually talk about like you should know who he is.

So this is the project blog for my as yet unnamed project. Since I obviously can't be trusted with the ol' write-as-you-go method of report writing, I figured a blog that I had to update would be handy as a record of what I'm doing to look back on when April roles around and I realise I haven't written a word beyond OH GOD, OH JEEZ, APRIL WAS SO FAR AWAY IN JANUARY.

Self imposed blog rules-
  • Mandatory weekly updates on Friday evening, even if it's just a to-do list of all the stuff I didn't get round to. Evening is loosely defined as the time after food but before it's too late to start watching a movie.
  • NO BLUSHING. This blog is for rambles, disjointed ideas, doodles I did on the phone. It can also be for the more polished stuff, but that is not imperitive.
  • No deleting. I mean, unless what I posted was so super bad. Let's say Barbie the video game levels of bad.
I reserve the right to modify or add to these rules at any time and also the right to tell you to shove off if you call me out on breaking one.
